THE COUNSELLING RELATIONSHIP

Research suggests the strongest indicator of success in counselling is the client counsellor relationship. In order for you to have a successful counselling experience, it is important that you find a counsellor who is the right fit for you. If you or I do not feel this is the right fit, I am open to having a discussion and suggesting other options with you, as my ultimate interest is that you receive the best support possible. A 15 minute free consultation to determine if we will be a good fit is available upon request.

THE FIRST SESSION

In the first session we will discuss Confidentiality, which is of the utmost importance in the counselling relationship. It is essential that the parameters of confidentiality are understood and that you feel your sessions are a safe space in which you can share openly and freely.

Following confidentiality we will discuss what has brought you to counselling, and what you are hoping to gain from the process. As my client you will receive an approach that is tailored to fit your individual needs, and the therapeutic approach will change and evolve depending on what will meet your needs at that time. If at any time I believe an approach is required that is better met by another professional, I will guide you to the resources available so that you may continue uninterrupted in your therapeutic process.

MOVING FORWARD

Many people find being in nature therapeutically beneficial and I am open to discussing the possibility of incorporating the outdoors in sessions, such as in a park, or out for a walk, so long as it is an appropriate place that respects your confidentiality, and arrangements have been made beforehand. Some of the most meaningful sessions I have shared with clients have taken place at the beach or sitting under a tree. The interconnectedness between ourselves and nature can be a powerful tool for healing and personal growth.

Sessions via video or telephone are also an option for those unable to attend in person. This can also be a great option for winter weather conditions and those who live or work outside of the Campbell River area. Whatever the medium chosen, I will always ensure you feel supported in a private and secure setting.
